Documenting Detroit is a community photojournalism initiative creating a documentary record of Detroit by Detroit-area photographers.

Each summer, Facing Change: Documenting DETROIT hosts a FREE juried Fellowship for Emerging and Early Career Photographers living in the Detroit area.  Fellows are asked to pitch a story and then paired with acclaimed photojournalists, editors, curators, and documentarians to hone their skills and craft a portfolio that will stand on its own in the global documentary community."

My project focused on Moe Draper, a shoe repairman in Eastern Market, and his family--Wife, Aziza & Daughters Leela & Miaka. Moe, along with his wife, run their business 'Detroit Shoe Shine & Repair' while navigating the medical needs of their youngest daughter Miaka, who has a genetic disorder called 'Emmanuel Syndrome'.
